Hamilton Centre MPP Sarah Jama Serves Libel Notice to Premier Doug Ford for “Reckless and Malicious” Statements

Today, Sarah Jama’s office served Premier Doug Ford with a cease-and-desist letter. The letter outlines defamatory statements Premier Ford made about Ms. Jama on social media on October 11, 2023. Ms. Jama maintains the post was reckless and malicious, and that his statements meet the test of defamation as contemplated by the Libel and Slander Act of Ontario.

The letter states that Ms. Jama will not tolerate premier Ford’s attempts to tarnish her reputation in such a public manner. Furthermore, she demands that he formally retract the post and publicly apologize within the next seven days, barring which she will consider filing a lawsuit against him.

Ms. Jama would like to thank all those who have supported her and, most importantly, all those who continue taking risks to affirm Palestinian dignity and safety during this dark time.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
