Re: Announcement of Creation of Task Force LCP23 and Call for Donations

Over the past ten weeks, the horrific Israeli war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza have compelled Canadians across the country to bravely exercise their constitutional right to free speech and assembly to call for a ceasefire, the end of Israeli occupation, and the respect and application of international law. However, many face the threat or have been victims of harsh censorship, defamation campaigns, dismissal from their jobs, various forms of discrimination and repression – and none more than Palestinian-Canadians.

Given this concerning situation, members of the Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim Canadian communities have come together and approached the Legal Center for Palestine (LCP) to create a Task Force, LCP23, with the following objective: supporting and helping LCP to obtain the financial resources and build the necessary capacity to push back these attacks, protect and defend our allies by coordinating their legal representation, educating Canadian citizens about their constitutional rights, and prompting community and political leaders and authorities to advance human rights for all.

LCP has identified the following key priorities:

  1. Facilitating legal assistance and representation for Palestinian rights defenders;

  2. Educational webinars on legal topics such as free speech, hate speech, discrimination, defamation, and international law;

  3. Offering trainings and workshops to minimize advocates’ exposure to legal risk;

  4. Establishing relationships with like-minded organizations across Canada and abroad;

  5. Advocating before educational institutions and employers for the interests of Palestinians in the workplace and in schools and universities;

  6. Providing media professionals, lawmakers, and policy leaders with accurate and timely reports in support of Palestinian rights here in Canada, and abroad.

To make this important and necessary work possible, LCP23 invites you to consider donating to the Legal Centre for Palestine at www.lcpal.ca/donate. For more information, please contact us at general@lcpal.ca or on our website at www.lcpal.ca.
